CBIZ secures N.J.-based employee benefits, retirement business

A Cleveland, Ohio-based business services provider bought the employee benefits and retirement section from Advantage Benefit Planning (ABP), based in Pleasantville, N.J.

CBIZ acquired on Dec. 30, 2011, the employee benefits and retirement book of business from ABP.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The acquisition is expected to add about $900,000 in revenues to CBIZ.

The company said it will retain the staff of the employee benefits and retirement book of business, including Vaughan Reale, the principal.

CBIZ provides professional business services to more than 140 company offices in 36 states.

High net-worth individuals value help with wealth planning ‘complexity’

Nearly one-quarter of high net-worth individuals do not trust their children or stepchildren to protect their inheritance, a belief that creates “increasing complexity” in dealing with handling their wealth.

Packaged accounts targeted by FSA

Rules governing the sale of paid-for bank accounts could be tightened to prevent another major insurance mis-selling scandal, under proposals from the City watchdog.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) wants to force banks and building societies to check that customers are eligible to claim on insurance cover before selling it to them as part of a packaged bank account.

Such accounts bundle a current account with a range of insurance policies that typically includes breakdown, travel, ID theft and mobile phone cover.

Remember What’s Important During Open Enrollment Season

It’s currently benefits open enrollment season for millions of American employees. This is the season they’ll be faced with some big decisions about their 2012 health care coverage. Health care costs are expected to increase by seven percent in 2012 to $10,475 per employee, according to Aon Hewitt, a global consulting firm. Employees are projected to contribute roughly $2,300 to that expense in 2012. That’s an 11 percent increase compared to 2011. Aon Hewitt’s analysis shows that beyond that cost, employees will spend an average of $2,275 on out-of-pocket expenses while seeking care next year.
