holden commodore – worst car crash test
**UPDATE** The test was conducted in 1992 and was part of a series of tests to commission our crash test facility. The test was of the drive system, not the car. The car was a standard ’second hand’ car except that the tail shaft was removed. 300kg of sand ballast was placed in the footwells and boot and a ballast dummy (75kg) was placed on the rear seat. The test speed was 100km/h into a solid concrete reaction block. Colin Jackson Crash Barrier Manager RTA Crashlab (02) 9830 1721 So I have …

I contacted crashlab. It was to test new facility, Car was loaded with sandbags (watch below door) and test was 100kmh. Not an actual crash test!!
June 5th, 2009 at 9:25 am

And posting this video with the title “worst car crash test” without ANY actual information about the test is irresponsible. For all we know it has 2000 lbs of concrete in the trunk (like that old VW van crash test).

It may be a poorly repaired wreck that’s being crashed to test repair technology. RTA’s Crashlab tests at 60 and 100 kph (37 and 62 mph). The vehicle in the test looks like a 1980 model at a crash speed of 100 kph. Any car of that vintage (and price/size) will have similar results. The NTHSA tests at just 35 mph.

I’m no fan of Commodores, but I’m suss about this. For instance, at the 20 second mark the date appears as 09/06/92. Why would they conduct the test then?

the music sounds like an instrumental cover of “The Downward Spiral” by Nine Inch Nails…
and that video is scary. however, someone already said that the video was just filming a test of the crash system–not the car.
June 5th, 2009 at 9:25 am
too bad you weren’t in that car, racist.
June 5th, 2009 at 9:25 am
