Compare Car Insurance for Rentals Outside of US

Some countries mandate car insurance for rental cars, so make sure to check that before booking though an online company.  A concerned writer asked travel columnist Christopher Elliott what they can do about a situation they encountered with Expedia in Israel.  He responded in MSNBCs article Broadsided by mandatory car rental insurance.

The writer told Mr. Elliott that they had booked three rental cars in Israel through Expedia at Budget Rental Cars.  When the first family member went to pick up their car in Israel, they were told they would have to add mandatory rental car insurance.  They were displeased that Expedia didnt compare car insurance requirements and add this extra cost in when they received their quotes.  After this happened, they tried to cancel their other two reservations and Expedia said that they could not do so because they had incorrect reservation numbers.

Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, and PacifiCare Agree To Delay Rate Hikes for 60 Days

Three major California health insurers have agreed to comply with Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones’ (D) request to delay their planned premium increases for 60 days, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Background

Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross and PacifiCare all recently submitted notices about their plans to raise rates for members with individual health insurance policies (Ceasar/Helfand, Los Angeles Times, 1/27).

The insurers’ rate filings show that:

  • Anthem proposed raising premiums by an average of 9.8%;
  • PacifiCare proposed raising premiums by between 2.5% and 9.1%; and
  • Aetna proposed raising rates by an average of 2.8% (Colliver, San Francisco Chronicle, 1/28).

Delay Details

Jones asked the insurers to delay their premium increases so he would have sufficient time to review their rate filings and ensure that they comply with state law.

CFP Board takes disciplinary actions against 23 of its members

The CFP Board, which regulates Certified Financial Planners, recently took disciplinary action against 23 of its members.

Members who had actions taken against them included two from New Jersey, one from New York, one from Pennsylvania, four from Georgia and three from California.
