Used Cars a Safe Bet

Written by Mackenzie Dexter on October 10, 2011 – 3:46 pm

Buying a used car has always been a tossup; on one hand, youre paying much less than you would pay for a new car while, on the other hand, youre sacrificing benefits such as a car with little to no miles on the odometer, a warranty, and free scheduled maintenance. Many budgets can only stretch as far as a used car, but the risk of getting a vehicle with issues that require costly maintenance has been a problem for consumers.

Study: Life Insurance Coverage At Lowest Point In Five Decades

Written by Samantha Edmunds on September 27, 2011 – 5:41 am

Life insurance coverage is at its lowest point in more than five decades, according to the 2011 Genworth LifeJacket Study. Almost half of Americans with incomes between $50,000 and $250,000 don’t have life insurance. Those who do have it may not have enough. They have an average amount to cover 3.6 years of income which means they’re leaving their families significantly under-insured.

The goal of this new study is to help close the insurance coverage gap. Many people want to do the right thing when it comes to life insurance, but some struggle with who to trust or where to get solid information. Around 40% of consumers don’t think they have enough life insurance to meet their family’s long-term needs. “While

Lloyd’s of London hit by record claims for natural disasters

Written by Samantha Edmunds on September 27, 2011 – 3:31 am

Lloyd’s of London is warning that the insurance industry faces an extremely challenging outlook as the world’s oldest market slipped deep into the red following record claims from natural disasters.

An unprecedented run of catastrophes in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the US has led to insurers paying out billions of pounds this year. This made the first half of 2011 the costliest six-month period in the insurance market’s 323-year history.

Richard Ward, Lloyd’s chief executive, said 2011 was shaping up to be the second-worst year on record for the insurance industry – after 2005, which saw Hurricane Katrina wreak havoc across the southern US. O

Should I Buy the Cheapest Policy?

Written by Mackenzie Dexter on September 25, 2011 – 1:02 pm

Avoid the Cheapest Auto Insurance if You Have an Auto Loan

When you have an auto loan, your vehicle is not really yours.  Yes, youre the one who puts gas in it and lovingly takes it to the car wash each week, but it doesnt belong to you.  Sorry.  That means if you are in a car accident, you have to continue paying for your car or they will take it away.  Even if your car is totalled.  Wondering why you should even care if the car company repossesses your totalled vehicle?  The repossession will show up on your credit report, making it difficult for you to purchase another vehicle in the future.   Also worth noting:  in some states, full coverage is required by law if you have a lease or loan on your vehicle.

Avoid the Cheapest Auto Insurance if You Live in a Dangerous Neighborhood

Live in an area full of crime?  You need a good car insurance plan.  Studies have shown that cars in crime-infested areas are more likely to be stolen or damaged.  If you have the cheapest auto insurance plan, you wont be protected.  Dont let thieves or vandals ruin your day.  Protect your vehicle.

Avoid the Cheapest Auto Insurance if You Dont Have Any Money

Youre probably thinking that you definitely need the cheapest auto insurance plan if youre broke, but thats not necessarily true.  If you have no money and the cheapest car insurance plan, what do you think will happen if youre in a car accident?  Youll be responsible for any damage to the other vehicle, but your insurance many not cover the cost of repairs for your own car.  If your insurance plan doesnt cover the other vehicle, the driver can sue you.  You think youre
